Corn Stalk Bale Supply

Corn stalks — the stalks and leaves left in the field after the grain harvest — are one of Türkiye’s largest agricultural biomass resources. Biyolink collects them baled after the harvest, verifies moisture and ash with analysis and delivers them to industrial plants in large bales — and buys from farmers with corn stalks to sell.

What Are Corn Stalks, and When Are They Collected?

At the grain harvest the combine takes the grain and leaves stalks, leaves and cob residues in the field. Once dry they are gathered and pressed into large square bales. Using them as fuel instead of burning them in the field earns farmers an income and avoids the damage stubble burning does.

The main sources are the Çukurova plain (Adana, Osmaniye, Hatay, Mersin) together with Konya, Şanlıurfa, Sakarya and Samsun. Collection runs mainly from September to November; for year-round use the bales are stored dry and covered.

Typical Technical Values

PropertyTypical value
Net calorific valueAbout 3,000–3,600 kcal/kg
Moisture10–20% (in dry bales)
Ash4–8%
BaleLarge square bales, mostly 300–500 kg
FormBales; shredded on site before feeding

These are typical ranges from published sources; actual values vary by lot, source and moisture. We share a laboratory analysis of every lot with our quote.

Where Are Corn Stalks Used?

Corn stalks arrive baled and are shredded at the plant before going into the boiler or kiln. Their ash and alkali content is higher than wood’s, so boiler design and blend ratio matter.

  • Alternative fuel in cement kilns
  • Biomass boilers and power plants designed for bales
  • Blended fuel with other biomass
  • Raw material for pellets and briquettes

Transport and Delivery

Bales travel by truck; vehicles usually fill up by volume before weight, so good stacking decides the tonnage per run. At the plant they are unloaded by forklift or bale clamp. They should be covered in transit and stored under cover to keep the rain off.

What Determines the Price of Corn Stalk Bales?

The price depends on the harvest season and bale quality. We build our quote around:

  • Bale moisture and soil/ash content
  • Bale weight and density (tonnage per run)
  • Distance from the collection area to the delivery point
  • Season: supply is plentiful right after the harvest

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the calorific value of corn stalks?

Published sources give dry corn stalks a net calorific value of about 3,000–3,600 kcal/kg. It varies with moisture and soil content; we share an analysis of every lot.

How much does a corn stalk bale weigh?

Large square bales mostly weigh 300–500 kg depending on density and size. Small bales weigh 15–25 kg, but industrial supply uses large bales.

When are corn stalks collected?

After the grain harvest, mainly from September to November. For year-round delivery the bales are stocked during the season.
